It is the heir to several theaters of the same name, the first of which opened in 1887. It closed in 1999 for safety reasons, reopening in the fall of 2005, remodeled by the same artists who performed at the theater: comedians Faemino and Cansado.It originally served as a demountable summer theater, but was almost always located in the same neighborhood. This "Teatro Maravillas," the third of that name in the same area, opened in 1886 with the play Las hijas de Zebedeo by Ruperto Chapí.From 1919 onward, it changed its name to Madrid Cinema, and for the following decades, it alternated film and musical theater performances. After the Spanish Civil War, the theater specialized in revues. On July 15, 1979, a bomb attack on Manuela Malasaña Street caused extensive damage to the building's structure, although it remained in use. On February 18, 1999, when a play by comedians Faemino and Cansado was on, Madrid City Council decided to close it due to structural deficiencies. The remodeling included the demolition of the old building and the construction of a new apartment building, a hotel, and a new Teatro Maravillas, which reopened on November 2, 2005, under the management of Pedro Larrañaga. Currently, the Teatro Maravillas is managed by the professionals of Grupo Smedia. Among the personalities from the world of acting who have trod its stage over time, we must highlight figures such as Sarah Bernhardt, Rosario Pino, Raquel Meller, Mª Luisa Merlo, Miriam Diaz-Aroca, Enrique San Francisco, Beatriz Carvajal, Gabino Diego, Maria Barranco, Carlos Hipólito, María Pujalte, and many more.
